Last Summer Tlacaelel was asked by the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos, NM to co-curate an exhibition of Chicano artists from around New Mexico. With such an exciting opportunity, Tlacaelel gladly accepted the invitation with vision and impetus. “I am thrilled to have been asked to reach out to artists around New Mexico and invite them to participate in what turned out to be a phenomenal exhibition.” That exhibition covered Chicano art from the 1970’s today and included some of the biggest names in Chicano art and history; names like Oscar Lozoya, Cecilio “Xilo” Garcia Camarillo, Luis Jimenez and others. This was a monumental undertaking as it involved 42 artists from around New Mexico and other states.
To further illustrate the intention of this exhibition, there are artists panels on the history of Chicano art and the future of artists creating art today. In commemoration of his curating the exhibition the museum felt it appropriate to purchase one of his pieces featured in the exhibition. The work is a cut paper piece titled Ventana Rosa, or Rose Window.
